FIRE PREVENTION

Please visit the Raritan Township Fire Marshals Office webpage at Raritan Township NJ - Fire Safety Services (raritan-township.com) for all inquiries.

The Board of Health recommends all homeowners review the Residential Inspection Guidelines to ensure that their fire safety systems are working and up to date, providing the intended protection for you and your family.

Fire Prevention is an ongoing educational process of safety awareness. By educating homeowners and business personnel in fire prevention, we strive to minimize the loss of life and property. It is the Bureau's responsibility to enforce the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code which establishes minimum standards for the preventive maintenance of all required fire protection equipment installed. It establishes the safe conduct and operations of hazardous processes and specifies the proper storage of combustible and flammable materials. Fire Prevention plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of all New Jersey residents and visitors.

Residential Properties:
The New Jersey Uniform Fire Code 5:70-2.3(a) states: "Before any one or two family structure is sold, leased or otherwise made subject to a change of occupancy for residential purposes, the owner shall obtain a Certificate of Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance (CSACMAPFEC), evidencing compliance with N.J.A.C 5:70-4.19, from the appropriate enforcing agency."

Please read ALL information about requirements as the NJ Administrative Code is regularly updated. The requirements can be found with the application.

If clarification is needed, or if you have any questions or concerns about the code, please feel free to contact the fire official.
